no water or just a small amount is a BIG No-No , like a bad tire or a battery that only works now and then . dont forget a lunch sack .

There was an old man here in phoenix who survived because he drank the water in his windshield washer reservoir. This was I wanna say two years ago.

Forget the plastic tarp over a hole in the ground, barely a half pint a day, not enough. If you have a plastic bag, wrap it around a tree
branch (one that has leaves) and it will pick up water through transpiration (plant's breath). I can't remember the quantity, but I got
this info from a Desert Survival class at Joshua Tree National Monument a few years back. It was claimed to be the best method by the
ranger.
