Lost Plane found after 60 Years (made in Buffalo, NY area)

After 60 years a Bell Air Cobra found intact with a Harrison Radiator in it.

Did you know the girls like Rosie the Riveter, that built these planes wrote
their names and addresses on the planes bulkheads?

This is very interesting, especially if you're from Western New York State.

Thanks for posting that.. I had read about the find and recovery, but that filled in lots of gaps in the story.
The P-39 was an interesting aircraft with it's mid-engine. Wonder how the pilots felt with that great big shaft rotating beneath them

Where does the P39 fit in? I have never seen one in a wae movie or a news reel during the war. I have seen the P38, P40, P51, and the British Spitfires.

good evening Frankn: they were basically a ground support aircraft. the 37 mm was for light armored vehicles and ground installations. They were not designed for air to air combat, hence never received the glory nudge of being of Ace materiel. They were successfully used in the battle of the bloody ridge on Guadalcanal. They literally chopped up and made hamburger of the Japanese main group, stopping them before they could be used in the main battle. They had a major role in keeping Henderson field American. The loss of Henderson field would undoubtedly have meant the loss of Guadalcanal and would have been a huge moral buster instead of being a booster and prolonged the war.

They were pretty aircraft, and good ship busters in the Pacific.
