I've gone to the state legislature website and searched all the laws for the keywords "metal" and "detector" in various forms and combinations, but the only thing that comes up are a couple of laws regarding metal detectors entering public buildings, etc. I don't see where metal detectors are mentioned anywhere in the state laws. Is this correct?

https://www.legis.la.gov/legis/LawSearch.aspx

I've searched my local City-Parish ordinances and same thing, not hits on those keywords.

What I'm trying to find out is if it's OK to metal detect public parks and areas, unless otherwise stated in city or state ordinances.

Any ideas on where else I should be looking? I don't think city and state public parks would fall under federal regulation...or do they?

I believe most public parks and areas here in Louisiana are open to metal detecting. I live in New Orleans and it varies by site. New Orleans City Park is fine to detect but according to the website all "treasures" belong to the state of Louisiana. They don't expand on what they mean by "treasure". So far I've found mostly pull tabs and junk! But I keep looking! The other big park in the New Orleans area, Lafreniere Park in Metairie, does NOT allow you to metal detect. The best thing to do is contact the local park or public area you want to hunt and ask. Good hunting!

Good advice Ken. I called New Orleans parks and rec, they told me all parks but City Park and Audubon are off limits

I detect all the parks here in Baton Rouge. The ones that won't get me beat and robbed or just straight up killed anyway. I did have a guy block my truck in at a park in downtown area and asked me "How much will a pawn shop give you for that thing you have?" All while swigging on a tall boy Bud at 8 am. When the drug dealers start taking up the corners, it's time to head out.

Yeah man, I know what you're talkin' about. I get jittery in some of the parks myself.

Hey guys/gals, I was in Kenner the other day and asked the Parks and Recreation Mgr. about the "laws" for md'ing and he told me 'there are none, go right ahead". I was at the park by the boat casino.
P.S. ROLL TIDE
