I see some references to low tone and high tone vaquero's.
What is the difference and why is there a difference?
How do you know if buying online if it is a low tone or high tone and is it really important?
All things considered I have decided on a Vaquero for my new detector, Now I just need to know the difference between a low tone and high tone Vaquero.

They all come low, unless you special order or send it back to Tesoro for the change. I like the higher tone, It just depends on your ears.

Some detectors allow for a setting of controling the tone from a high or low tone. The Vaquero does not have this feature. Depending on the headphones the sound may be different from what you hear out of the speaker, but it is basicilly a one tone detector.

You have to move up to the Tejon to get this feature.

I looked at the Tejon first and that was one of the features I liked was the adjustable tone. I received quite a few personal messages from some people in my area that said the Tejon was not as stable as the Vaquero in the soil here in NW Montana. The depth difference is not really all that significant and the Vaquero also uses just one 9V rather than 8 AA's I like the ground balance in discrimination mode on both these machines or I would have thought seriously about a Cibola. I like Tesoro's life time guarantee and service.
I had a Stingray II I bought used and even though I wasn't the warranty holder on that machine Tesoro took very good care of me when I had a little problem with it.
That was a major factor in my wanting a Tesoro for my next machine. They really do stand behind them. I hear low tones better than high so if the Vaquero comes with the Low tone that just convinces me all the more.

A lot of people that have hearing problems like a high tone because it is easier for some to hear. I have some hearing lost but cant stand the high tone mod, " IT DRIVES ME CRAZY" if i have to listen to it for a long hunt.
It is just a personal preference..

I had a low tone Vaquero and wished I had the high tone. On my Tejon, I keep it at high tone. When you hit iron or discriminated items the high tone tends to be more distinct in the break up.

well i've had both and got to say i like the low tone better it was easier to hear the break ups for me and just could find stuff better and i think each machine is different to i had one vaquero that was hot and wished i never sold that one because after i got it back from the factory it was like night and day

The high tone is in the Discriminate Mode, if you click to All Metal the tone is low. I like the high tone myself, just easier for me to hear the changes.

I have a low tone Vaquero and it works just great for me. The V is way more stable then the Tejon and I don't see any real difference in the depth between the two. The Vaquero with one 9v is a pleasure to swing all day, has good depth and discrimination. Some members in the club I belong too use the high tone V, but for me the low tone works just fine. :icon_thumright:

High Tone 15 bucks extra and worth it from what I understand.
To make sure you getting what you pay for, Always buy from an AUTHORIZED dealer.

? Is there a on line demo of high vs low tone so we can get a idea of the difference between the two?

The tone is like the one of the Bandido II micromax if that helps
