Well its a fantastic find for you in your area !! All the pirate history makes me wonder ?? Maybe fire damage ?? Take more pics...there kinda dark. Is that sand on it ?
It almost looks hollow or folded ?

Hi Thanks

yes black due to tarnishing in salt water?
Most definitely folded it seems
will try for a better Picture

Well can't wait to see what it turns out to be....might have to clean it more....maybe a mark or something identifiable under that sulfide crust !!

I've seen similar shaped silver pieces posted on the Spanish speaking FB group. If it is Spanish, you will see that after silver is cleaned.

Usually I would chime in to let the poster know that their lump of black doo-doo is not precious.

But your lump has a nice looking saltwater-silver crust.

I hope you find a marking! And yeah, hard to ‘unfold’ but maybe something is under that.

On the “one ounce” note: saltwater silver in my area gets eaten away quickly, and a silver half dollar will have the same weight as a quarter after about 100 years. Not every coin, but a lot of them…

Thanks for posting, hope it’s real pirate treasure!

I assume being Silver it must have rung quite high. I'm wondering if it's solid or any debris is mixed in. Maybe Silver slag and was kept to remold at a later date. Shape is odd.

Crap. Had to delete for lack of edit ability.

Congrats!
Folded it could be used or carried lots of ways.

Your piece looks too thick for my first thought. Leather holds ocean damp compared to lead. Or in your case and my vivid imagination.... Silver!

Found a "lump" of Silver close to where we think a Wreck may be.....
Question? Its not perfectly square, my first thought was it had been rounded off after 200 years in the water but it weighs a PERFECT OUNCE!
So Would these have been used as any form or currency or something else?

TIA!!
Congrats. Thats really interesting
