Lunch Break finds...a button???

On the way into work today I noticed someone doing a little digging in between the sidewalk and the street. So on my lunch break I walked over and asked if I could MD before they landscaped. They let me and I found a piece of a clay pipe a 1978 2p Eire and finally a copper piece with a bird stamped on it. I'm thinking it was a button at one time but I'm not sure. I'm going to try to get back there tomorrow but I saw they already bought plants.
