LYME DISEASE

Am I a tick magnet or is my farm host to the largest tick nest in the country? I'm marveling at those of you who have only had 3 or 4 in over a year. 200 for me in two months is conservative. I drenched myself in deet and still averaged 7 - 10 a day this summer. Maybe it's because I'm in Virginia? Big tick state or something?? I'm jealous. ???

In the spring, I would walk outside to take the pups on a potty break and find usually one on me. They are in my yard.

Correct me if im wrong but there is no cure for Lymes. It is something you live with forever. My buddy has it and he gets achey a lot. Ive had many ticks imbedded on me this year. One for 2 days in my belly button! :o It was so tiny I didn't see it. I havn't had any symptoms. But it is a scary thought. I hope you heal fast Heavy. Theres more GW's for you to find! Why did god create ticks and mosquitos anyway?? ???

I do most of my hunting alone. A few times I have felt something crawling...... Not uncommon to find me standing in the woods, in my underwear with my pants arround my ankles, twisting this way and that "looking" at myself. Sounds funny "because it is" but it is better than having a tick attach to you. I dont think that I have been caught yet :D :tongue3:

If treated with antibiotics early, you can completely eliminate it.

You are correct, you have it forever and as I type this I am on hold with my doc,to get a prescription refill for more painkillers!!

Thanks for the warning. This seems to be a heavy tick year in Mass.. I've never had a tick on me until two years ago. Now I seem to find at least one on me every time I'm in the woods. They say if you remove them within 24 hours after they bite, your chances of getting Lyme is slim. At least that's what they told me at the Mass. Dept. of conservation and wildlife. Good picture for identifying what the rash looks like. Luckily I haven't experienced that yet. Good luck to you. Thanks again. bg

Yes that is it my partner got it to this year under his arm didn't know he had it until his wife saw the large red mark ,the doctor removed the tick he is still waiting for results of test so far so good, good luck with yours .

OH YEAH, that's Lyme aight. Got it last year myself. I saw Bushido Dude say he's pulled 4 off this year....I know I've pulled off at least 65-70 this year. YEAH EPIDEMIC here in Virginia.

Here's My Lyme from last year ;D OUCH:

*They just gave me a months supply of STRONG antibiotics Dyoxycyclin and said that it would wipe it out....You only have problems with it if you do not treat it within the first month

I'm sorry to hear it.Conn. is real epicenter as is LI.I try to woods hunt in the winter, although I went last weekend, but I sprayed my clothes with permathin, which kills the buggers on contact.Good luck on a quick cure. You have made some fantastic cellar holes finds and I hope you can get out there quick.

Great thread, lots of information. Lyme Disease isn't taken seriously by the medical profession up here really.
Just moved to an area that the ticks are said to be bad, deer population is quoted at 625 for a 24 sq. mi. area.
Best of luck on your recovery. :icon_thumright:

I've had it 3 times... Not fun.
What can I say... I have sweet blood and the little buggers can't resist me. :laughing7:

If anyone is experiencing the symptoms... See your Doc. Don't let it go untreated.
It can really do some damage to your body if you don't get on an antibiotic in the early stages.
It attacks your major joints and if left untreated can cause damage to your organs.
Antibiotics will do the trick.

Please keep in mind... If you have been on an antibiotic recently.. and think that you may have Lymes..
let your Doc know.
The antibiotics you were on... could cause a "False" negative when you get the blood work done
for the Lymes.

Insurance companies want the Docs to take the least expensive route... So, don't settle for anything less then
the Western Blot, blood test.
Who knows.. there may even be a better one out there now.

I hope you feel better soon..

Terry

get yourselves some permanon, it kills ticks. you treat your clothes with it and if they get on your clothes they take about 3 steps and then die. works on mosquitos, ticks, chiggers, spiders, those damn chinese lady bugs, you name it.

Its not carried by the same ticks that Deer have,it is carried by Seed ticks which are very small

In our "neck of the woods" Lyme's is mostly associated with a tick called a "bear tick", which is MOST OFTEN associated with mice, although they do grab a meal from just about any warm-blooded critter that happens by. Like the referenced "seed ticks", "bear ticks" are extremely small and difficult to find on yourself.

You want to see a variety of ticks ? hang a deer carcass over a clean sheet of freezer paper and see how many drop off as the carcass cools.

Yes that is exactly right, the little Pain in the #@# ones that get all in your socks and EVERYWHERE

If you feel weird and have been eaten alive by ticks, see your doctor even prior to any bullseye rash. Just ask him to put you on doxy even before running blood, which tends to produce false negatives. I'll say it again: if caught early enough, you can completely eliminate Lyme disease. Sure, it might still be hiding in your marrow, but it's wounded, scared and harmless. You'll never see it again. Happy ending.
