What do you all do to keep ticks at bay?

Found a tick on my stomach last Saturday. I must not have had my shirt tucked in my pants. I usually do as well as my pant legs tucked into my muck boots, long sleeves with the sleeve end tucked into my gloves. Haven't had a tick for a few years.

We got the tick out and that's when all hells broke loose. I developed a rash that got worse all week. Finally got into the doctor yesterday. Doctor thinks the infection is from the bandage adhesive, not the tick. I had put a bandage over the bite since my shirt was rubbing over it and making the rash worse. So now I'm being treated for the rash, the infection, and lyme. The medication has turned me into a creature of the night, lol. Have to stay out of the sun as the meds make sunburn a real threat.

Just made me wonder, what do you all do to keep ticks from the opportunity to bite?
Take a bath at night, wash my clothes, stop sleeping with the dog.

I have had my share of tick encounters!!

Same thing happened to me.. Besides the bite I got a cross pattern rash, from the 2 bandaids..
It wasn't easy to get rid of.
It took Cortizone 10 to heal it..

They know in your hair they have not much business because the head skin doesn't let easy blood access like the rest of the body does
Thats good to know. Funny thing is last (and only) tick I had was on my head. Must have been a rookie tick.

Was that the typical Bullseye from Lyme disease or just an immune reaction? I get painful lumps and the pain radiates into large muscles every time from an immune reaction to the saliva
That must have been an immune reaction as I was told after testing that I didnt have Lyme

They are nasty buggers me bouy. Try a specific anti tic repellent and once home get a short arm inspection. Can cause Lyme illness. Last but not least is to stay out of thick or overhanging vegitain!

Yes they may craw around in your hair and if they succeed in puncturing around your temporal areas they will do it, but most easy for them is to puncture under your armpits , upper leg parts, and so on

The worst ticks we would get into were what we called seed ticks. Just dozens of them no bigger than a pinhead on you. Grandma would rub coal oil on them to get rid of them. Also, if you had a deer tick stuck on you, she would rub tobacco juice on it to make it turn loose. If you have a large deer population in your area, you will see an increase in ticks.

Back on the farm we put dusting sulfur in a sock and beat it on our pants legs to repel ticks and chiggers.

A natural remedy is mixing Tea Tree Oil ( about 6-7 drops ) in a small spray bottle and fill the rest with water and spray it on your pants around your ankles and all over your shirt, neck, cap wherever. It is all natural so there are no chemicals to hurt you. The ticks hate the smell of it and will come no where near you. I've been using it for years. You can pick up the Tea Tree Oil at health food stores or maybe these days, Amazon.

Some grocery stores also have it. Even Osco Jewel, Mariano Supermarket, Tony Fresh foods may also have it here Chicagoland
Just more expensive
Caputo's also had natural oils before

You haven't hit the Trifecta until you come home with ticks, chiggers, and poison ivy.

Likely not safe but still effective for me was Seven dust in a sock bounced off the trousers and boots before going out.

Got the Japanese beads on now (takes 2 weeks to be effective) Got the high feq. Tab that is for ticks. Spray his legs and wipe his body with the spray.
Yup the wife got an engorged one from his neck last.:dontknow:

I just wear one of these light weight painter's suits, either under or over my clothes. They sell them for around $7 in the hardware store. Very easy to see ticks on the white backing and they can't get through the material, not even the nymphs.

Interesting. Because head and scalp wounds always bleed profusely. I think it is just because ticks attach low and don't migrate all the way up to our heads before settling in. My wife had one on her neck. I tried to remove it with a tick-removal tool and failed to get the head. I tried an X-Acto knife, but soon chickened out as it was above her jugular vein. We took her to the emergency ward, and the nurse practitioner also chickened out with a scapel blade. He just globbed it with antiseptic, gave her a shot of antibiotics and a prescription for 10 days more of pills, and told her what wasn't absorbed by her body would fall off with the scab. Whatchagonnado?

Well the thicks are not able to do even a 10 mm incision through your head skin. To bleed that bad.

The profuse bleeding is probably when your head is cracked due to hitting something hard like a sharp metal shelf corner or bad cut during construction without a helmet.
I mean there are all kinds of thicks and situations but basically the thick knows for example the biology features of a cow or dog.
And we are not that much different than cows evolutionary.
But you are right! A lot of times dogs get thicks s on their heads. But most often behind the years or onto the ears. Because there is soft tissue there to be found....if you look closely a big dog ears area- especially inner ear surface. You would also notice bunch of veins appearing pretty shallow.

I used to have big Pitbull/ Mastiff kind of dog. Sometimes after running for long time in the park, his ears would become not only hot but also like slightly expanded ( due to increas blood flow ) and oftentimes Even had Rosy appearance. Dog had very short fur!
So this shows serious blood circulation is going even through his big ears .... And guess who wants to penetrate that soft thin skin there??

I mearly meant to point out that there are a LOT of blood vessels near the surface in the scalp of a human, but that ticks find a suitable attachment point before they get that far up our bodies. Sheesh!
