What do you all do to keep ticks at bay?

I mearly meant to point out that there are a LOT of blood vessels near the surface in the scalp of a human, but that ticks find a suitable attachment point before they get that far up our bodies. Sheesh!

Well.i didn't argue your observations and knowledge. I was just presenting my observations

Some members here already know that I usually convey thought in a voluminous way.

i use deep woods off, and try to plan it so when i come back from the woods, my clothes go in the washer, and i go in the shower.

Well the thicks are not able to do even a 10 mm incision through your head skin. To bleed that bad.

The profuse bleeding is probably when your head is cracked due to hitting something hard like a sharp metal shelf corner or bad cut during construction without a helmet.
I mean there are all kinds of thicks and situations but basically the thick knows for example the biology features of a cow or dog.
And we are not that much different than cows evolutionary.
But you are right! A lot of times dogs get thicks s on their heads. But most often behind the years or onto the ears. Because there is soft tissue there to be found....if you look closely a big dog ears area- especially inner ear surface. You would also notice bunch of veins appearing pretty shallow.

I used to have big Pitbull/ Mastiff kind of dog. Sometimes after running for long time in the park, his ears would become not only hot but also like slightly expanded ( due to increas blood flow ) and oftentimes Even had Rosy appearance. Dog had very short fur!
So this shows serious blood circulation is going even through his big ears .... And guess who wants to penetrate that soft thin skin there??

Well I'm not sure what a "thick" is and not sure if they can make a 10mm incision, but I doubt it since 10mm is over 3/8" or bigger than a 9mm bullet which for sure would bleed profusely no matter where is was on a body.

I agree. But here again you are comparing thick to a bullet without realizing it. Because the bullet would not only puncture this size opening in your skin but would go deeper, right? Would cut through deeper tissues than a thick ever can?
Although, even from 9 mm many people recover but from a thick poison they linger on half-functional for long time

I got Rocky Mountain fever from a tick 20 years ago. Luckily, I knew I'd been bitten, and the fever hit exactly when I expected, so I knew the problem. Doc, agreed, I got meds, and in two weeks I was OK. But initially, that was one of the worst illnesses I ever had. Don't want a repeat. Wife and I use permethrin, as others have stated, but this year we're initially trying the electronic, ultrasonic gizmos on both us and the dog. They're called "Tickless Active". I'll report back, at some point, on how well they work.

That being asked, I wasn't comparing a tick bite to a bullet wound and the damage it does beyond the skin surface, only the size of a bullet wound entrance, what I was pointing out was you stating a "10 mm incision" and comparing that to a tick bite, a tick would never leave a bite wound that big!!

But that's exactly what I also meant to say. We are on the same page !
Because you or someone earlier alluded to the scalp being able to bleed quite bad... And then I responded basically " But not due to a tick puncture"
Hence came to my mind the idea to use the 10 mm incision cut .... meaning a tick can never do that.
