Lyme's Disease - get yourself checked

Yep, if you're in the woods in Deer Tick areas get checked. Not sure? Try this canine map and Click the Lyme's link - yep, it's pretty hilarious using a dog map but it's actually the best measure out there of Lyme's presence.

Map of ticks and diseases ? dogs and ticks

I found out Wednesday I contracted it for the third time. It was early thanks goodness. I told my buddy and he says he may have it. I ain't stopping digging, tired or not, so plan on seeing a post of mine again soon;)

Last Saturday I went hunting with Loco Digger and EastCoastDigger. I was dragging ass and now I know why.

Anyway, here are few maps of the East Coast:

Stay safe out there. If you're not sure and feel fatigued, get tested. It's easy.

Good digs everyone

I spray my clothes down with "Repel Permanone". I get my spray at Walmart in the camping section. I believe it's mainly used for spraying your tent and camping gear down. I spray my clothes before I put them on and let them dry, can't remember the last time I found a tick on me.

Yes Lyme disease is bad had it twice then 3 years ago got what they called heart land virus took the CDC 2 years to notify me that I. Had heartland virus it is a bad sickness be careful stay safe happy hunting

Scrappy,

Thanks for the heads up....a young chap on the Canadian forum contracted it about 5 years ago and he waited to long he more or less incapacitated from the last I heard....not the type of illness you want to have.

Dang Scrap... sorry to hear that you are infected. I hope that you start to feel better buddy.

I am now on the look out for ticks! Thanks!

Damn dirty ticks...good for nothing. Speedy recovery!

Ya my son had this just recently and it took them a couple weeks to get the proper diagnosis until the rash he had became giant rings on his legs.

But he was crazy tired and sick and out of commission for a good bit.

a good number of years ago I came down with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from a tick I got on me while fishing the banks of a farm pond. It was an experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. I will never go into high grass or weeds again

I hate ticks. I get covered every year but this year I have been pulling off a whole lot more.

Danged little ticks, 4 bites so far this year. Last year I ended the season with 19 bites. Fortunately I have running scripts of Amoxicillin, and do find them, the tiny little buggers early. Just standard antibiotics will kill the Lyme disease in tick bites before it turns into full blown Lyme Disease.

The worst two pains I've ever had. #1 Lymes #2 RMSF.
3 months to recover from the former. Absolutely debilitating.
Wish you a speedy recovery!!!

Lyme's even caught immediately is still not 100% curable.. The lead scientist on lymes was/is not sure now but was located at a university located between p'cola and Tallahassee and he went to upper Georgia to drag for ticks and got bit..
Well he knew what to do and immediately went on antibiotics but it didn't work, last I heard he was really screwed up.
So spray and tuck in,a lifetime of misery is not worth it for being lax, don't forget your scalp.

you never hear much about it down here. We have ticks of course, but the disease doesn't seem to be a big problem. that mosquito disease is around now after all the rain. That's all that is in the news. Hope you get better quickly...

Sorry to hear Scrappy, We hope for your full recovery and return to treasure hunting. I have not done any boony hunting this summer, for that particular reason. Ticks don't like the well manicured lawns of schools and parks where I can be found stalking....Get well. Sub 8-)

Thank you for the important information!

Doxycycline should be in every metal detectorist's medicine cabinet.

I understand perfectly. Several years ago I had to take the antibiotic treatment, but it was caught early. I had problems from the antibiotic for a long time after. It also kills all the good bacteria in your system.

Johncoho,

I went through a similar episode from another sort of infection.....I started eating plain yogurt which help build up the good bacteria in my system.

last year a "black leg" tick hit me with a triple play---Lyme, anaplasmosis and Ehrlichiosis--2 days for incubation-then started with chills, weak and vertigo. within 36 hours I was in convulsions. a short ride in the strobe light bus to the ER and some Doxy. rumor is Tea Tree oil works to repel them but it sure does stink :--(
