This heavy brass piece has seen the light of day only about an hour. I dug it in Southern Albemarle today below an old brick house that dates to the 1700's, although I'm pretty sure this piece is not that old. It is obviously not a belt plate unless it fit in a rectangular frame because it lacks any vestige of attachment hooks. The only thing I can figure is it may have been a piece from The Miller School of Albemarle. I know they had a machine shop and produced cast iron frog door stops and maybe other items, but in my many years I have never seen anything like this. I am going to need lots of help from you on this one!
