Have obtained some really beautiful malachite rough, and was wondering how best to finish it. Can it be tumbled with an only malachite batch? Should it be hand finished instead. Any directions or instructions would be useful.
Malichite can be tumbled but if you have nice stuff I would not do that. Tumbling is what you do to rocks that have no other use but to make pretty for kids. Malichite is soft and an be worked the same as Turquoise. Make cabs finding the best markings for belt buckles or pendants but I love to use malachite for inlay work. You can work it with regular tools if you do not have lapadary equipt. Be careful it is a copper carbonate, you do not want to breath the dust. It takes a great polish and is a very beautiful rock. It is also getting expensive so do not waste it.
