mandan pottery with finger(nail) marks

this is a small piece but rare in my opinion since it is not black(colored with ash)
it is natural clay and river mussel shell ground into powder only without the black ashes mixed to give it the black color
a small chard but enough to show the fingernail marks were used as part of the design around the circumference of the rim area
i am sorry for the doubled images but i clicked too many times
in addition my computer skills are lacking
hope it gives some information to anyone interested in mandan pottery

I love Mandan pottery...this is an interesting non-black sherd...the fingernail imprinted sherds are especially precious...such a feeling of being connected with the ladies that made them!

Love that stuff with the fingernail impression's and finger marks they are very special.
