Wonder if it's still in that museum, or shipped off to the Smithsonian, perhaps?

yea my guess destroyed by now, from bing forgotten about in a cardboard box for 50 or so years at some wanna-be's basement

I Forget his Name but my Dad told me His Boss
had a Big Collection of Fossels & Odities that were taken from the
mines. He wouldn't Report them to anyone for fear of being Shut down.
I've wondered on tht occasionally what happend to that collection.
if it went up for Auction after his Death,, or Moved on to a Relative
or even destroyed by time or some Calamity.

Makes me wonder How many amazing thiings Miners had to Keep their Mouths Shut about

my dad would also bring fern fossil's home so often, They would Lay around without me even looking at them. I Think he would Search the Slate Banks for Intresting ones to Bring me. but there was always a Point where they just got a glance and smile and collected dust???

Maybe I'm wrong but I figure coal formed in the Carboniferous hundreds of millions of years ago containing the head of a mumified prehistoric man, dubious. Unless there was some sort of glacial deposit of coal that had also scooped up a human, but even then, such as the well documented case of Otsi the Ice Man, his was in ice in a high elevation where preservation is actually possible. An article from 1909, is at the height of the public interest in human evolution, it would be just 3 years later in 1912 that Charles Dawson "discovered" the skull of Piltdown Man, lauded as the so called Missing Link, later discovered to be a hoax, and a very crudely made one at that. Dawson's many prior "discoveries" along with the discoveries of many of his early 20th century contemporaries were discredited as hoaxes shortly after too. Let us also not forget William Randolph Hearst, who at this same time popularized sensational news stories simply to sell papers and bend public opinion based on fairytales, now known as tabloid, our yellow journalism.

I'm still of the Belief Man was here at Least With the Dinosaurs & Probably Large enough to ride Some.

They may have even Had a roll in their extinction.

I Also Believe Man was here & Went Underground several Times,
Maybe due to Massive Asteroids !

So Yes I Can believe We are Not being told the Comlpete Truth about Our Existance for Religous Reasons, Which I Won't get into, For one. and Archaeological Egos for another. So Anything is Possible
in my mind :coffee2:

And don't forget about convergent evolution, the crocodilians for example, they evolved independently over and over again from completely different lineages. This is well established in the paleontological record. In essence, it means species can evolve over and over again, even after they are "extict". So the humans of this epoch, may simply be a convergent species, not the first, nor the last. Take note, the fossils of crocodilians are way more common simply due to fossils more easily forming in the aquatic environments in which they live. If convergent evolution also occured in other species, the amount of fossils we have of them will not be as prolific simply based on the nature of their more terrestrial habitat. Traditionally terrestrial animals have less of a fossil record than aquatic.
