Read this only once ...

that people will conceal a mining site by filling it in, but to supply proof that it was really yours you bury something that a would-be claim jumper will find, thus proving you have a prior claim.

Seems reasonable, but is this a real thing?

In the past I sometimes used pieces of 6” schedule 80 pvc conduit to mark my corners and discovery point. I filled the one at the discovery point partway with dirt and put my notice in a bottle into the conduit, filled it up the rest of the way and put a second notice in a second bottle on top. On two separate occasions I visited a claim and found claim jumpers who had removed my notice and replaced it with their own. They were inclined to argue until I dug a foot down and revealed a notice dated prior to theirs. It was not as satisfying as shooting them would have been, but caused fewer repercussions.

Thanks for the reply. I guess this was not a common idea otherwise the jumpers would have known to look for it.

How did you come by it (hear it, think of it?)

The fake 90’ stone that the scammers made in an attempt to fleece money out of investors?

The fake 90’ stone that was thrown away when investors didn’t bite?

Yup that very stone.

Assume for the moment that it is a claim marker. The coded characters which you would decipher for any who dispute you, to prove you were there first.
You stopped digging because the air gets bad at 90 ft with no ventilation, or maybe even poison gas.
You did not reach the target, otherwise you would not have had to leave such a marker.

And of course, there was a treasure searcher before the "original three".

If one were writing a fictional novel, yes.

In reality the stone was proven a fake.

Imagine holding a stone with the key to unimaginable treasure THEN throwing it on a junk pile.

Without a legal recorded claim, tossing a marker in a hole and then trying to use that to assert your rights will get you laughed right out of the courtroom. If the OI stone was such a marker, the proper thing to do is toss it in the ocean and keep digging.

Well yeah if it had someone's name and date, but if it was encoded?

There's a long story coming.

It begins around 1720-1730 in Smith's cove, but we will work backwards to that point.

From COOI we learned that the u structure trees were cut down and used in Smith's cove in 1769.

We further learned in viewing the excavation there that there were some structures inside the U. To me they looked like attempts to stop water runoff from the forest layer. Craig Tester states by dendrochronology one of these inner structures was made 20 years earlier, and the other too degraded to date, but was clearly in worse shape.

Which brings us to the dendrochronology testing which established that the main u structure was built 1769. (I am trying to do this without notes and hope my dates are right.). This is interesting because there are presumably records that show that Timothy Zink bought the lot (19) this is on in 1768.

Why is this interesting? There are some maps that show a treasure chest buried right in the middle of the u structure. It seems a fair guess that Timothy bought the land because the land grants of 1762 which established the lots now meant he no longer had free access to either lot 19 or 18 (the MP).

More to come.

The u shaped structure has been proven to be a common wharf structure of the time.

Continuing to rehash proven false facts helps to fully expose the nonsense of oak island.

Let's put this in chronological order.

1701 Captain Kidd hanged.
1720 ish - rotted remains (not dated by dendrochronology due to poor condition) of a wall like structure highest(?) uphill within the u structure area was built. U not built yet.
1749 - a wall like structure (dated by dendrochronology) is built downhill of the 1720ish remains. (You can see these in COOI Season 6, when they excavated the smith cove area).
1762 - Morris survey of OI divides it into lots.
1768 - Edward Smith sells lot 19 to Timothy Zink. (Lot 18 is MP).
1769 - U structure built by Timothy, dated by dendrochronology.
1771 - Slipway aside u structure built.

Until the 1762 survey, I assume oak island was all unclaimed land. After the lots were surveyed, people were given the land with the proviso that they had a certain amount of time to develop it.

It's possible that lot 19 was given to Edward Smith, taking it right out underneath whoever was actually digging for the treasure on what was unclaimed land, and that a claim marker on the likewise unclaimed land of the MP was a valid way to have possession.

Until 1762.

All common activities. Nothing alluding to a fantastical treasure.

You continue to refer to "treasure".

Can you please explain as to what treasure?

What we are looking at is a treasure HUNTER between 1701 and 1762, most likely looking for Kidd's loot - a treasure chest.

I don't know if the map shown in the thread "oak island treasure revelations" post 46 and 50 was in existence during that time, but you can see that if it was it would have guided the hunter to that exact spot.
