Marking your hidden mining site

I don't know if Kidd was ever on OI or not but I highly doubt that he or anyone else documented every thing and place he stepped foot. So to say he was NEVER on OI to me is a stretch. Maybe he did stop there for some reason or another. Granted doesn't mean he left anything behind even if he did.

Let's put this in chronological order.

1701 Captain Kidd hanged.
1720 ish - rotted remains (not dated by dendrochronology due to poor condition) of a wall like structure highest(?) uphill within the u structure area was built. U not built yet.
1749 - a wall like structure (dated by dendrochronology) is built downhill of the 1720ish remains. (You can see these in COOI Season 6, when they excavated the smith cove area).
1762 - Morris survey of OI divides it into lots.
1768 - Edward Smith sells lot 19 to Timothy Zink. (Lot 18 is MP).
1769 - U structure built by Timothy, dated by dendrochronology.
1771 - Slipway aside u structure built.

Until the 1762 survey, I assume oak island was all unclaimed land. After the lots were surveyed, people were given the land with the proviso that they had a certain amount of time to develop it.

It's possible that lot 19 was given to Edward Smith, taking it right out underneath whoever was actually digging for the treasure on what was unclaimed land, and that a claim marker on the likewise unclaimed land of the MP was a valid way to have possession.

Until 1762.
Some corrections on this.

Another name - Edward Smith sells to Timothy LYNCH in 1768. Dunno which name is correct

Add "1753 - john gifford/Richard Smith (fishers) granted oak island by Governor Charles Lawrence"

Is Richard smith related to John Smith?

So the fishers are granted the island in 1753, yet had packed up and left by the survey of 1762.
Surely they hadn't run out of fish.

For a weird idea, the fishing camp was "cover" for either mining or treasure hunting.

There is the common problem with oak island.....when all treasure stories have been proven as false, folks make up new ones such as, "fishing camp was a cover for treasure hunting".

A question no one has ever been able to answer here is, what factual verifiable treasure was ever deposited on the island?

Yep......that's like saying I was never on the moon is a stretch.

Read this only once ...

that people will conceal a mining site by filling it in, but to supply proof that it was really yours you bury something that a would-be claim jumper will find, thus proving you have a prior claim.

Seems reasonable, but is this a real thing?
Hi Armchair detective, a grey stone with marks on it might well have been used and left behind in the Money Pit, it could have been used to sharpen tools that would be a fair theory, alternatively it could have served as a crude table to cut up fish or game for a stew. Charcoal and Coconut fibres that spilled from Dunnage bags that were used to sleep on were found in the upper platforms, these levels were utilized as sleeping quarters in the harsh winter conditions..
The so called Cryptic message stone was alleged to have been written in a basic a cypher for letter code, it was actually an embellishment to attract gullible investors. First you write the alphabet and next beneath each letter you put your own symbol, then you write a message but now just using your own symbols code.
Look at this logically, why would the owner of a large some of money leave a message just designed to encourage you to dig deeper and take it, and why put it in a code, it was clearly a fake. If you were digging in a shaft hoping to find treasure would you really stop digging just to work out a code? :laughing7: you could still reach the treasure by the simple process of ignoring the stone with a message craved on it.
There was never any treasure put in the Money Pit, in the great Subterranean flood tunnel system of Oak Island it was actually the deepest SAND SUMP of many, and none of them contained treasure. (see CAD)

Here is the main thing I'm getting at. SOME PEOPLE on here are always saying well it's never been found ( written down ) that so and so was ever on the island like it has to be written down in order for them to believe it right? Then when there are stories of events that were written down they dismiss those because they just don't believe it. Can't have it both ways.. Not saying the stone wasn't a fake but some think there never was a stone to start with even though we have all read stories about it and it moving from here to there.. Same with the 3 guys finding a depression. Some think that didn't happen like that yet that is how this whole thing got started. Without that no one is digging. Treasure or no treasure. What I think is funny about the whole story is WHAT IF, there was a treasure and it was found by the boys, or Samual Ball, or whoever, They would all have good reason not to run around telling everyone!! What if the story about the 3 guys finding a chest or 3 chests as it is sometimes told. Notice how onl;y one of them is part of the Onslow Company who comes in a while latter to dig. Two of them went on with their lives while one played along since the story was out there about them digging and they didn't want to admit they found anything and or he might have thought there could be more below.. Back to the Captain Kidd thing. DO you really think that everything he did, or piece of land he ever stepped foot on is written down somewhere.. That goes for the Templers as well. If they did come to hide a treasure, ( not saying they did before everyone gets bent out of shape that it is not written down somewhere, atleast that has been found ) do you think they would have told everyone?

The "3 guys" claiming to have found a depression left and never came back to the island for more than 20 years. They must not have believed an actual treasure was there.

The only reason they came back is because in telling their story that they could bilk folks who bought their story out of money.

I might have missed it somewhere along the line but I have never heard of them finding the depression and then returning 20 years later to start their dig. Which would have put them in well into their 40's by then. If the story is correct in them finding the depression in their early to mid 20's.. Also never heard of them having investors on their initial dig, while using shovels, pick axes and buckets. No need for investor unless you paying for people to help dig. Onslow Company came in years later..

Hi n2mini; Oak Island is seeped in mystery but unfortunately it is also surrounded in mendacity and it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. I know this is arrogant but never the less it is true you will be on the right track if you follow my lead. There IS a huge treasure stored in a subterranean repository, and I have offered to pay the cost involved with the current searchers attempting to locate the hidden "Loading Shaft", (See CAD) this leads to the treasure, but the partners have not even replied, that lack of respect will cost them.
This slight now means that they will probably never find the treasure, and everyone will lose out with that failure, this is probably simply because my input is considered to be superfluous to requirements. They have been searching and doing without my help for about fourteen years, how is that working out for them so far? great if you like coins, tools, bits of metal, china, and lots and lots of wood. :laughing7:
