Marking your spot????

Am I the only one who marks spots with something left behind and then goes to that spot to see if it's still there to decide how much time and effort to spend at said spot? What I leave is special, so it's easy to tell

I'm talking about water hunting and volleyball courts. Leaving a bent penny at a spot to go to first. That way, I know if it's been hit and I don't waste my time.

No one finds everything, I’ve hunted behind the same person several times and have found two gold rings he missed. I’ve watched this person, he moves fast, cherrypicks and he also throws his trash back in his hole. The trash makes me mad but the rings don’t.

I fully understand that. When I go to a place, the first thing I do is go to my spot and see if I can find my marker. If I do, I stay and hunt it; if not, I do a quick search for a while to see if I even hit any targets. I had the same marker in one spot for 15 years at a small, out-of-the-way beach in Ohio

Just because you plant something doesn't ensure someone else is going to find that target.
I know guys that do seeded hunts with silver.
Then return the day after the event and retrieve dozens of missed silvers.
I know where there's a hold coin and folks been hunting the field for years and it's still there.

If anyone misses my markers, they need to be schooled in metal detecting. I make it super easy for them to be found, and in most places I have more than one. In one set of 8 volleyball courts, I have at least 4 on each court. Pretty sure no one ever hunts them; I do well at them. At least 10 to 15 gold rings a year, so worth the time
