Wheat Cents ...
Some people really enjoy finding them others absolutely hate finding them.
Some people keep records of how many Wheat's they have found and others just don't think it's worth the effort.
A lot of people think the only good thing about finding Wheat Cents is that they are a good indicator that Silver coins could be near by.

Here's my opinion ...
I've found a total of - (2274) - Wheat Cents
They have definitely let me know there were Silver Coins in the area many times.
I've put one of each date and mint mark that I've found in a Harris coin folder.
Sometimes I'd rather leave a site with a Wheat or two then nothing at all.

Good Hunting !

Wow, 2274 Wheat Cents is a lot! It's great that you've found so many. I agree that even finding a few old coins is better than going home empty-handed. Happy hunting!

2274!!! Wow, I'll have to count mine up soon.

I'm glad wheaties exist. I don't find coins older than 1900 too much so if all I found were mostly memorials it would make me kind of mad if I got the same design from a 1909 coin and a 2008 coin. Plus, the design looks nice.

Wow, that's a crazy amount of wheaties! I've found 94 pre-1940 wheats and probably around 400 wheats from 1940-58. I know how many pre-1940 I have because I put those in cardboard flips. I mainly do that because most of the 1940's and 50's wheats have insanely high mintages and not really worth much at all.

The question we all want to ask is how many silver coins have you found? It would be interesting to see what the ratio of wheaties to silver coins is in your area. I think my ratio is around 5 wheaties to 1 silver coin or maybe a little less than that.

My coin ratios add up like this ...

For each Silver coin I've found it looks like I've dug approx. - 4.5 Wheat Cents
For each Indian Cent I've found it looks like I've dug approx. - 6.5 Wheat Cents
