mfc--When a man joins the Masonic Lodge ("Made a Mason"), he is typically presented with a pocket piece, usually called a Masonic Penny, upon which he engraves his "mark". I don't know all the uses/symbolism of these, but I suppose they could be used to show another Mason that the carrier is also a member. Since they are carried in the pocket, they tend to wear. Also, like other fraternal organizations, Masonic Lodges came and went, especially in the early days - say around the turn of the 20th Century.

Cool token there.

I got one mason token but it's from 1888. It's a chapter token.

cool thanks for info it almost as much fun doing research on items as it is finding them

I never got a pocket piece when I was raised. I know they still make them

Nice find, if you learn anymore about this coin please post it HH :icon_thumright:

I never was given a pocket piece, depends on lodge customs. Bob Holton PM napoleon 301.

This coin has to do with the Royal Arch Masons, a part of the York Rite . It really has nothing to do with Masonic Lodge as such. You have to belong to Masonic Lodge to be able to join the Royal Arch Masons, The Royal Arch is also called The Chapter in most locations. A very nice find, congrats

I never got a pocket piece when i was raised either, as stated must be a lodge thing, cool find though
