I dug this Massachusetts Volunteer Militia button this past Sunday at a former home site that dates back to at least the 1850s. The button depicts the arm and broadsword image from the state‘s seal. I think the maker might be D. Evans Co.,, but I would need to clean the reverse to be sure. I am guessing this button is pre-Civil War, maybe the late 1840s or 1850s. No other keepers that day, so I was especially excited to dig this button. Good luck and happy hunting.
