It has been quite some time since my last post. Been really busy with life...... Finally starting to get back into the swing of things this year (pun intended) I git out for a short hunt after work tonight. Not much to post about other than a curious suspender clasp. I see the Massachusetts indian holding a bow in one hand and an arrow in the other. Maybe some script below the indian. This thing is very well made. Twice the weight/thickness of your average clasp. Possibly military?
The thimble from tonight is the smallest one I have dug. A few decent buttons and a really nice Flying Eagle Cent has come from the site too.

Thanks for lookin' VPR

I don't know anything about the clasp, but it's a pretty neat piece. Maybe there was a medal hanging from it at one time?

It is a suspender buckle in the Massachusetts motif. For years they were misidentified as militia hat plates. 100% not military issued and likely post civil war.

That makes more sense to me.... if there's any space between the crossbar and the back. But regardless it's cool as hell.

Agreed, & being pressed copper plate dates it to post-CW I believe.

The center part of the script appears to read "Patented..1850"-possibly?

Looked at that & thought 1880, but you could be right looks a bit like a 5, maybe this will narrow the search??

I'm thinking it may be military as well, but no basis for that opinion other than it is much more substantial and ornate that normal suspender clips. Nice find and thanks for sharing.
