Massive Pieces Of Petrified Wood.

Almost the whole tree actually. I estimated it's length at well over 20 feet. This is about a 30 minute drive from my house in an area that is not known for petrified wood, but known for it's odd rock formations.

Each piece of this tree is 4 foot long. The "pedestals" they are sitting on were created when the petrified wood protected the clay soil beneath from eroding away.

I hunt for petrified wood. I have the few odd pieces as part of the landscaping at my house. This is just in another league in terms of both size and beauty.

I bought some cut slabs of petrified wood at a gem and mineral show. I made 2 cabs and polished them. No idea what state they came from.

This is a piece of pet wood I found at the local river. Brought down from Canada by the glacier.

The petrified wood in these parts is from the Late Cretaceous period. That would put it at about 70 million years old.
