i went to my sis, old house today were i found some old silver and wheats about a few years ago. there was so many roots in the ground but thanks to the mighty a.p tool i was able to get around some of them. i found a buff, 1919 and what i think is a match safe? i should have put some oil on it but i did not and broke it. is it a match safe?

Sure looks like a wood match holder.
What are its dimensions?
Is there any markings on it?

Or it may be a cigarette holder as most match safes have hinged lids... they're "safer" keeping the matches dry.

Maybe it had advertising on it at one time??

Some thoughts...

its 2 in from top to the bottom and a bit less then 1 in wide. there is no marks as of yet. i need to clean it. i wanted to hunt the back yard but the grass was to tall. i found the buff and the safe?, in the front yard. the funny thing about it was that i went around to the gate in the back yard were my sis, dogs were and they tried to eat me up but there was another gate on the other side of the yard and when i went in that gate far from them they was real nice ::) no hinge

That sounds logical to me Willie.
With the lid design and all, some space to grab the blade,
and no designs on the exterior of the case,
probably had a paper label.

Oh ya..here's an eBay auction, not an exact match but notice the dimensions...2 X 1.
