Left early for a hunt and decided Bel Air over Baltimore City.

After digging some modern change I got a signal in the high 70s. Just three inches down was what looked like a large cent or a large flat button. Turned out to be a large cent in rough shape. I've posted a pic against that of a Matron(1816-1835) R.S. Yeoman's 69th ed. U.S. Coins 2016. Would like your opinion if this is or is not a Matron; there is no discernible reverse detail.

Upon leaving the woods, I walked back to where my truck was parked only to find a field of about 30 Indians between me and the parking lot. Turns out these guys come here regularly to compete on the cricket pitch. Now you know the rest of the story.

Definitely a matron head LC. Nice find.

Sweet find !!!!!!

In looking at all the possibilities, I will also say matron. Nice save

Looks matron to me!

do a 5 minute electrolysis, then light wet baking soda paste with toothbrush---details will be there, might even pull a date

Uh...East Indian Americans or Indian Head cents? I'm so confused but I like your old coin! Sub 8-)

Thanks Sub! Now 30 IHCs between me and my truck would be something I could dig, but these guys were playing cricket.

Thanks port ewen ace! Sounds drastic. Not sure there is anything to 'resurrect' here.

Thanks cjon455! Matron 4 - Other 0

Thanks ScubaDetector! Matron 4 - Other 0.

Thanks Evolution! Matron 4 - Other 0.

Thanks villagenut! Matron 4 - Other 0.

Thanks Tommy! Found a bunch of shotgun shell headstamps, .22 casing, larger caliber modern lead bullet, and possibly a roundball, but the large cent was the only relic.

Put me down with a Matron vote. Sweet find McCDig. :icon_thumright:

Thanks L-D! Appreciate your vote; that brings Matron to 5 and Other 0.

Thanks Art! Consensus is that it is a Matron. It is contemporary with a flat button and a half cent, all three pieces being located within a 50 ft radius at the top of a hill.

Definitely a Matron. Congrats!
