I'm wondering if anyone wants to try and get a 2009 summer hunt together for us... If someone has a idea or a place where we all could get together for a day or 2... maybe a treasure tale hunt or a ghost town or even a house. we all can make a suggestion and vote on it... we can chose a day so people can make plans to get off work.. I love watching people findinf stuff even if i dont..i figure if we do it now or within the next few months,so we can get it well organised and check places or people who will let us... what does everyone think on this

Sounds like a plan to me.
If we could do it somewhere in the middle of the Lower we may be able to cut down on the average drive.

I'd love to do that.

That maybe something I would be interested in. Curits

thats why i figured we could plan now , so we could figure where to go so its close to everyone

i open to this we discussed this last spring but nobody took it to heart . camp maybe . i,m kinda grumpy sometimes but i really not that hard to get along with . from some of my posts i hope i don't upset anyone i guess i just try to have a reasonable standard for myself and other md and treasurehunters and it tees me off when our other friends in this hobby act without commonsense. name the place and time and my hubby and i will be there. there is a small campground on 55 just outside houghton lake called jeffers but it is rustic but alady rents canoes there (its on a no. branch of muskegon river and about 2 mi. west of reedsburg dam st. park towards lake city) and the lady there keeps restrooms spotless. i think it has 30 sites. just a suggestion but it is $15 a night ,close to a town

Hey Goldie,
Houghtone Lake area would definately be central to the Lower Penninsula.

Do you know of any great places to hunt there?

Mark

no but im sure some one does there is the old state police post on the corner of 55 and old 27. i think its empty. coyles restuarant is there and i can,t think of the restuarant next doorname has lionel trains running in it around the top of the walls, motel next to that is the way up north motel 50,s decor spotless clean and was 28 dollars a night and the hottest water in 30 states. real 50,s furniture not faux paux for tourists. stayed there a couple yrs ago after leaving mt pleasant casino and didnt feel like driving any furtur . trying to talk old man in to going up to coyles before weather gets bad. i think they have a web sight and there
is a lg. bird sanctuary there i,ll get on houghton lakes web sight and ask some of the locals if there is anyplace available to md .

hey i'd be up for that, I even happen to know this guy that seems to be able to find awesum sites just about anywhere....maybe you know him :)

Dan does find spots all the time... i went to the south higgins park over the weekend what a place to find nothing but junk i found 2 pennies... and i did hear there is a treasure story over there on the island on higgins but its private property..... but i be up for that area

Hey Goldie,
Is the restaurant called Whiteheads or something like that?
I know a couple of guys in Houghton Lake. I fish down there once a year in the spring.
I will see what I can come up with too. That would be a great area. I'm up for it.
Mark

yes i believe so.,whiteheads the pt i was trying to make was cheap camping, canoeing for a break and the peoplle along that don't md . cook at campsite or cheap but nice motel, and two nice restuarants that do buffets or individual meals that are reasonably priced . centally located. spend our found clad at casino (HAHA) and i agree that now just a site for mding. with the economy the way it is maybe somebody would let us chip in a few bucks and ckout their farm field or something. the only wkend that i can,t make it is last wknd of june and 4th of july wknd. and lets face it the way things are going moneywise we will have to do a hunt on the cheap so that everybody that wants to can be included.

thats why i posted this now. if im correct this past summer people wanted to do this but everyone couldnt becuse of timing

Houghton is a beautiful area, the scenery alone is worth the drive. I was wondering about the school yards there as I believe they were built early enough that there might be the chance of silver coinage there. If a hunt in this area is agreeable to all, maybe we all could do some serious research of the area and see what old sites might be available for us to hunt? The earlier we decide the better as to gaining all the nessecary permissions. just a few thoughts

i got a cottage to stay in on higgins lake.. you know there is a treasure tale of a man buried money on the island on higgans lake.. that reminds me this pas summer my daughter seen 2 ghost in the water a male and a female we went to the library to find pere cheney and my daughter told the libraian she said there was a tale of a girl and a guy both drowen there... this freaked here out

Each spring I organize a fishing trip to Houghton Lake for Crappe. We rent all the cabins in a resort. 4 large cabins.
It is about an hour and a half from here. I will see what I can find out from them, and from some of the old fishermen I know down there.

It is a beautiful area, with a fairly long history. It has been used by many people for many years. May be just the ticket.

where ever we decide let dan the man check out the area's trust me this guy can find a bulldozed house under brush i been there with him...But rember im not going to organised this we all are... i feel we all should have a say and maybe a vote if needed to ill drive to the U.P . for just go somewhere new

we don't have to have a big organised hunt since this will be a bunch of us just getting together. we all decide on a wknd im not very familiar with the history of houghton lake except it's named after a couple of surveyors. knowledgable people who have graciously said they would try to find a couple sites to md . no cost except taking care of yourselves and its legal to double up on campsites and im sure if some folks don't like traveling alone because of health , age ,or cost factors we all are adults and can pm each other and get it together.we all love mding and history HH,goldie

I agree there 100%... so everyone intrested get your calander out and look at dates and figure a vaction time from work.. and we all keep looking up stuff or any tales we can check out... i plan on going for a week.. I want to do some gold panning
