Maybe from the 1715 wrecks?

I found this on a known wreck area of the 1715 fleet on the treasure coast of Florida after the hurricane. It was encrusted when I recovered it and I cleaned it to this state. When I could see file marks I stopped. It's brass and about 3 inches long. Any ideas?
