Me and My Tennessee walking horse John Wayne. I have a Ted Flowers parade saddle on him. I call the horse JW This was when we were in the Canton Ohio Pro Football Grand Parade . JW grew so much the saddle no longer fit him. I loved this saddle. It was made in Indiana . I put it on Ebay and sold it for $7000 . I loved this saddle. I think this was maybe 10 to 15 years ago

RTR Thanks for the nice comment. All my horses are Tennessee Walkers. My horse Major used to do 20 Miles per hour and you would not bounce at all. He was VERY SMOOTH !!! I let to many people ride him that did not hold hold him is his gait. He is a little rough at times and we do not ride him much. This is Major His Registered name is Prides music Major. He is tripple registered Tennessee Walker, Spotted Mountain and Spotted Saddle horse. He also got his foot caught is some old barbed wire we did not know was there and almost cut off his foot now. He is completely healed . When this happened our vet came out to check him every day for 2 weeks .We used to take our vet riding with us some times and he would ride major :) All my horses do tricks i have taught them

Good thing he healed :icon_thumright: Cause we know what happens to 3 legged horses .Dad would keep ALL his horses until they died of old age, which usually would happen in the barn,in a stall.

would you like to take a guess at my VET BILL ?

In the 1970's my family had a small (2-1/2) acre horse ranch in Yorba
Linda, Ca. We built a nice arena from telephone poles, and a five-stall
cinder block stable, including a foaling stall. I was in my early teens,
so don't know the actual costs but do know it was damn expensive
keeping four horses..feed, vet bills, shoes, endless hours shoveling
horseturd pies.

Back then Yorba Linda was still a somewhat small town, with a True
Value hardware store that had... everything. I recall walking in there one day, with my dad. The owner (Dave) carried a line of horse tack
including saddles. Dave was in the back room somewhere, and my
dad had me sit in a couple different saddles, and pick the one I preferred. My dad grabbed it, and hollered back at Dave that he would
bring him a check the next day, which of course he did. Life was
different back then.

Vets were expensive 50 years ago, and I can only imagine what an
on-call vet's time costs today. I'm somewhat presuming that you've
been successful in life, fortunately, and you are very committed to
keeping your critters healthy and happy.

That Major is a handsome boy! You say you don't ride him much any
more....is that because his gait is uncomfortable? Has he got a lower
gear where he'll just walk along in a normal horses gait?

No, not in todays prices. Dads Vet just about live at his place with the dozen horses he had. But I do know he would of been ahead of the game by buying a backhoe for the ones that died of old age
