Dad & I spent 5 hours on relatively new ground (try it a little in the past with little to show) next to a Medieval Church. The aim was to try & get a hammered, & it only took me my first run to get it, although that was the end of my luck for anymore.
We came away with a good result;

17th C 1667 Halfpenny Token
Love Token - Will III Sixpence
VERY RARE - Tin Farthing of James II (1684-87) £2000-£3000 in EF, mine is nearly history
Edward I Hammered Penny - London Mint - (TheDane:thumbsup:)
Dad got a Complete Crotal Bell, I got a slightly broken one
Brass corner Book Mount (Tudor)
Broken Book Clasp (Tudor)
Thimble - 'PEACE & GOOD WILL'
Flint Scrapper
3 Tudor Buckles (2 Spectacle types)
13th C Annular Brooch (I like this one!)
Roman Nail
2 Medieval Iron Lock Mechanism

Nice hunt!
Silver it's just so great to pull out, I wish we had as much silver here, as you do there!
Congrats on the brooch, it's very nice!
Cheers

Great job Cru. We would kill for a spot like that over here. Love those finds. Tennessee digger

Yes but only my 3rd hammered this year & the only one on the whole site (none found previously). Its a pretty poor area for being so close to the Church. (maybe been hit before):dontknow:

Well just have to keep searching...
Here we have had rain like no other year, some areas 3 times the year intake!!!
I'm waiting for some better weather and a little less work to try some new spots!

Good / excellent scores.

With a site like that I imagine "anything" possible.

Rare "Tin" coin...that's interesting, never heard of such a beast.

They are tin with a tiny copper plug in the centre, they started with Charles II, James II, ended with William & Mary.

nice finds! I like the silver, buddy! great job on the finds, CRUSADER!

Congrats on the silver hammered. Any finds this time of year are good ones, cause it means you got to go hunting.:icon_thumleft:

old silver.jpgAs always, nice job Crusader.. It is nice to see some real old stuff come out of the ground. Just curious,, what is your oldest find..also, I dug this coin a while back and could never ID it.. Can you shed some light ? The only letters I can see are DEI. Its about the size of a US 5 cent coin. Thanks

A great day. sorry Not to be there! Apart from all the good stuff, well done on spotting the flint scraper !! So hard to see these ancient tools.

This coin is a spanish silver coin, probably a half real size if slightly smaller than a nickel. If slightly larger then it's a one real. Looks like Carolus III or IV, late 1700s or very early 1800s.

Nice work to Crusader on pulling up some excellent keepers from a not-so-promising spot!

Cheers,

Buck
