Went woods hunting around a 1000 year old castle and my digging partner believes I've found a very old medieval coin I'm not sure so I thought I'd post. 20201109_161342.webp20201109_161352.webp

I've looked through 1000s of these thing can't find this one. I searched treasurenet for bracteate and there's 1 from 2008. Haha. Dang the search continues.....

Congrats on the silver and especially the bracteate. Something different for sure and didn't even know they existed, most interesting post up.

Outstanding finds - congrats !

Only the 2nd in 12 years lol, rarer than platinum it seems!

I'd try contacting specialist collectors with your pictures, it's an arcane realm and probably even more difficult to navigate than newbies with no language/alphabet exposure trying to identify random ancient Greek coins. Generally speaking collectors like helping with identification of their favored items and enjoy sharing their interests, so don't be shy and keep us updated!

I didn't know they existed either. If I were not with my digging partner I would have assumed it was a button or decoration. I'm on a German treasure Hunter site, an English one, and tnet, and I've not seen another posted. Elusive little buggers.

Am i really the first here? I think with only one posted on T-Net in 2008 and probably a rare one with no match found it's worth to be on top.
I put in a vote. :occasion14:

great finds - very nice!

Very cool stuff! :icon_thumright:
If its silver, then it might be a coin, but the reverse is....weird, but quite old...!!

I wish we could find a match.
I had no idea it was a coin to begin with.
I now know it's rare, or very rare or Ex Rare, but which is it?
Must be an expert out there somewhere.
I'll vote, I thought about it, but I just like to know exactly what I'm voting on...

Yeah I had no clue it was a coin either. They are call hohlpfennig in German which means hollow penny. The back is just a reverse of the front as they are meant t be one-sided. It's definitely silver , from my searching it resembles others from the 1400's. Still searching for a match though.20201118_165745.webp

Thanks for the consideration. It's certainly "Hard to find"
