Metal detecting in the wood's

i just starting to metal detect in the woods now because the tick season is slowing down. i have found a metal detecting site with property lines and a deep impression in the ground with stones scatterd around in the impression and in the middle of this hole there is a pile of stones coverd by dirt. is this an old foundation is it worth it to metal detect in the impression? what can you find? already i tried i found two fragments of muskett balls. Or do you have any tips that you have for me what and were can i search in that metal detecting site. if you want any pictures just tell me I live in new york, Long Island, East hampton

sounds like a good spot, but will have to dig a lot of junk while at it
