That was a public park you were digging in!! I have done a better job of digging in plowed fields. This is a reason that areas get closed to detecting. No ground cloth, hacking at the ground, scattering the dirt all over, not properly filing it in and replacing the sod.

Learn to dig properly or find another hobby.
