Anyone who posts good finds is going to have people try to poach on their grounds. Sometimes even people you thought were friends will go behind your back, trespass on lands you worked to gain permission.

Jason is right. If you post pics wanting a pat on the head you are advertising that you found nice stuff and implying that others could too. It is best to keep your mouth shut and don't advertise your finds. I hardly ever post my finds. Its open range, but using your name to gain permission is a NO NO the same for leaving holes.

Admit it or not, this is a highly competitive hobby and often there are there times when the ugly faces of greed, envy, jealously, and other unethical morals rear their head. I hunt alone for not just those reasons, but for the solitude and being able to focus better when I detect. Metal detecting is a wonderful hobby that is about finding history and having fun, but we still have to be careful. Just some thoughts..

There will forever be those that let you do all the work so they can reap the harvest. I would never discuss or share where exactly I'm looking for that very reason, I don't want to be put in a position to think ugly things, its not healthy for them or yourself. You would think as adults you knew better, your looking for Gold not tulips.
