Hi,

Does anyone have any info on a company that produced metal tobacco cards in the past?

This is an unusual find. Someone has taken a metal Prince Albert tobacco box and mounted the tin metal baseball card inside and sealed it up. I have not dismantled it yet, because I didn't want to damage it if possible.

The entire item measures 3.5" X 5".

Thank you.

I assume that this was just purchased / sold on Ebay last week.
That makes it even more mysterious. It may help if we can see the eBay ad. I dont know how to pull up old ads.

I think one of the links you posted was actually the Ebay info., which didn't amount to much, if any help.

Just have to say it again... there is no explanation for the metal image and it would be crazy to break it apart. (because someone will know)

Can anyone date the Prince Albert tin? It looks like a nice clean oval cut out.

The original Piedmont green was printed in 1909 or abouts. It was reprinted in 1988. Neither are metal so its still unsolved..

But the metal image is obviously based on the early card. I don't think someone did this in their basement in 1989 so the fact the cards were reprinted doesn't mean anything.

If it were mine the first thing I'd do would be to track down serious Ty Cobb and Tobacco tin collectors.... especially ones very familiar with the Prince Albert company. This is the internet, these people are out there to find, and if this item is as rare as it appears it's probably going to take someone who has been around the block to ID it, or make an educated guess.

Maybe. Who knows what people will do on eBay? I think it shows that worthless modern reproductions are out there. Hopefully this metal reproduction is old and has some value.

Thats why I suggested to date the tobacco tin.

Can anyone find out if Ty Cobb had any relations with Prince Albert?
