I’ll leave my own reply I guess ...... I’ve been looking at other posts while waiting for a reply and decided to try the suggested scratch test. Unfortunately both left a dark grayish mark on tile. So I’m guessing these are hematite or magnetite possibly??? Darn....

Please excuse the site. The post circulated around the forum and is exposed again after a reply is made.

If both leave a dark grey or black streak on a surface, it will more likely be magnetite. The black appearance corresponds to the color streak it leaves. Hematite has a natural dark reddish appearance and will streak a reddish color.
Meteorite Home tests.

Hope that helps:)

The best that can be said is that there's nothing obvious about the external appearance that suggests meteorite, but it's not usually possible to make an ID from the surface appearance alone. At minimum, we would need to see the interior. The odds are of course against you, as always.

Hematite streaks red-brown; limonite and goethite streak yellow-brown; pyrite streaks black or greenish black; magnetite streaks black or grey; siderite streaks white. Iron ores are often a mixture of one or more of those minerals but usually one of them will predominate and determine the colour. Only magnetite is strongly magnetic. The others may be weakly to moderately so if magnetite is present as an accessory mineral (not unusual). Many terrestrial rocks are also magnetic to some degree.

A meteorite may or may not be magnetic (depending on its classification) but if magnetic will usually skid off a ceramic tile and at most give you a weak, dirty streak or nothing at all.
