Microscope recommendations for gemstones and to detect trace elements of precious metals on rocks? What I have is a small cheap Carson although the optics aren't bad for what it is. What do you use, what's out there ?

My brother has a OLD bottle dump that the old owner had and was born there His parents also farmed the land there .He was over 100 when he died . My brother won't let anyone dig there , even me ! I saw the bottle dump 35 years ago before my brother back filled the dump over.

Potsherd, have you looked into the USB scopes?

DD, I did watch a U Tube video on one awhile back, that's about all I know about them. Just now did a search and one supplier (Amscope) had 164 models (or configurations) so clicked on 4 star and up and narrowed it down to 55.
What is a good brand for the USB's? I don't mind paying some Benjamins although if something cheaper works just as well, considering recommendations.

Well, I searched the web this evening and there are a plethora of digital USB microscopes, cheap, thousands and everything in between, a bit overwhelming. I did see the Carson MM-840, cheap and good reviews, that will probably be the one.
