Military bowl ?

I was wondering if this is some sort of military bowl ? It's 4 1/4" wide

International Silver incorporated in 1889 or so. I suspect this is railroad ware. The most likely "SJ" railroad may be the South Jersey Railroad, a small (but not unusually small for the time) road at the end of the 19th century.

Not sure if thats what the shield emblem designates though. Still looking.

So the shield with the stars and stripes could have very well be the early (pre-1929) emblem of the United States Lines that owned the S.S. Leviathan.
