Sent my Excal in at the end of June July that is. (Thanks Max) The unit had stopped working suddenly and I noticed a burn mark on the inside of the control housing. They received the the unit on August 5th. Got the call that it was repaired today. So for any of you considering sending your machine in the turn around is about a month plus ship times. I am pleased it's on the way home :icon_pirat: but not happy with the turn around. Not compared to how long it took last time I shipped in my other Excal. Seems like the recent acquisition of Minelab by Codran resulted in some cost cutting in their service center, either that our there are some problems out there with some of their newer machines.

This was a warranty service so I would expect better. :( She comes home with a new Motherboard and coil (replaced the stock coil for a Sunray S-12)

Golddigger you found that key yet ???

HH to all !!!

Not yet. Maybe somebody already got it.

We were out there saturday for a hour+, but got frustrated after digging up 8 can tops and a dozen more pieces of slaw.

Patty got her machine back after a month, with a new coil, but the problem is in the headphones. :icon_scratch: Got to send it back again. Hopefully it wont take long.

See you out here sometime.

Aloha I just got back my Excal after five weeks at Minelab. They now only have two techs and that is the reason for the long turn around time. But I still like the service at Minelab even if it's slow.

Mine has been there since 8/11 and when I called a week ago they said they had not even had a chance to open the box. Seems like I am 186 in line and from what they say there are only 2 repair men to take care of Canada, USA and South America. Yes, they have cut back on personell since the buy out. Sure hope they get their act together soon :angry1:

I'm just playing devil's advocate here. Slow service by a good technician beats the heck out of fast service by a bad technician. The latter is the problem of the industry.

i am confused
sent it in at the end of june...........................how did u sent it - how did it take it like 35 days to get to minelab - end of june until aug 5th

i sent mine in a few weeks ago to switch from 10" to 8" coil and add new headphone plug - took 3 days from va to vagas - couple a weeks go by and i now have it back

sounds like u have almost new excal to me - good deal

good luck

This is quite a scary notion. I have need to send mine in to them for warranty repair, and am limping by on it in the meantime.

I was lucky,I was going to Vegas so I hand delivered. They fixed it within an hour while I waited.Met some great people there.

hmm, sounds like a great time to get a shop up and running. One for the west coast/eastcoast/northern area/southern area. Any idea what kind of tools are needed? Schooling? Sheesh, enteprenuarship at its finest.

It took them 6 weeks to get mine back to me, saying the coil was bad, $250 later and it still isn't any better but I know what it is now, a fine split in the battery gasket, made a new one of those and it's back to normal.. Oh, and the old coil they said was bad is not on my Sov GT working just fine.

I know he means end of July, not June, me thinks he has memory problems.

Clyp, Too much partying my friend......

Fixed the error I made Max thanks for pointing that out. Are you short on diggers this year? This board has been free of them for most of the summer. >:( >:(

Shipping from florida was about a week. Three days was twice the money UPS.

Yeah... I had a similar experience with Minelab. Sent my Sov Elite in for repairs at the end of July and it still hasn't been touched. On top of that, the tech I spoke with must have been having a bad day as he was really rude! I have spent several grand on Minelab detectors over the last few years and to be spoken to in such a manner was not what I would call good customer service nor good business sense. When I tried to speak to a supervisor, I of course was transferred several times and ended up with voice mail and no return calls. I decided to leave it alone in hopes that they just get my detector repaired and back to me in good order... the "new" Minelab company is definately not what I would say is an improved Minelab! I also recently picked up a Garrett Infinium LS and it has been awesome and so has Garrett's customer service/tech support.

Happy Hunting!

I had planned on getting an Excal II but with all the complaints from owners on the service after the take over I changed my mind and bought a Tesaro Sand Shark. Hopfully they can get it together so when I get tired of diggin all those bottle caps and other trash I can get an excal and a decent turnaround time on repairs but not until I here that minelab is doing the right thing...just my .02!!

There are many good used Excals out there for sale for a good price. I bought 2 used and have no regrets about buying either, although I did sell one to help finance the purchase of my water-proofed Sov GT.

Too many detectors?????????? How is that possible, I barely have any... ;D

I no longer have all on the list I have sold the Beach Hunter ID and the Troy X2, and the Conquistador is for sale.
