looking at Minelab detectors for myself.... i notice the GPX series and the SD series have the big Green Box..... just how heavy are these detectors?

Go to the Kellyco web site or Minelabs site. You can pull up their stats. It will tell you what they weigh.

Man that's pretty heavy for a detector isnt it? I havent boughten a detector just yet but im in the field for one.
 
If it has an ergonomic design to it, that 5 pounds should be pretty well distributed and not feel like 5 pounds. Just something to consider. Maybe a hip mount version???

I have alway used my detector without batteries...it's so much lighter :icon_scratch:

If you're worried about weight, there's a guy who makes a harness that looks like suspenders with a bungee. A lot of guys who nugget shoot with the huge coils use them. You can always do what I did. Suspenders from K-mart, a piece of bungee, a plastic clip & D ring from Ace Hardware. When adjusted, takes the strain off my shoulder pretty nice!
