mineralized ground?

as a newbie i hear a lot about mineralized ground. what is it and how does it affect metal detectors? thanks for any replies! dan in so cal

In simple terms, mineralized ground has some minerals in it that affect the detectors coil's field in such a way to not allow the detector to "see" the target. Some coils like the DD coils aren't effected as much and can see the target better. Minelab detectors have many frequencies to punch through the soil for better operation. Some other detectors operate on more than one frequence also to handle the mineralized ground. Hot rocks are a form of highly mineralized ground that is concentrated which makes the detector "think" it has found a good target.

i guess that was one of my questions....if the ground is highly mineralized will the detector read the soil itself as a target?...or will it just NOT read any targets that are there? in my own backyard i have to set the sensitivity of an ace 250 to just 2 bars from the bottom but at a local park i can set it to 1 bar from the TOP. does that mean my backyard is highly mineralized? thanks in advance. dan in so cal
