At least, I believe it to be a scraper. Posting here for any information you guys can give me. I found this in a field not far from a good sized river. I was told that the Dakota had a camp not far from here.

I think AntMike is correct. I'd lean towards preform, the material looks a little hingy for making flake tools.

That said a biface could have been used in that condition for a lot of things (and likely was), including scraping, but scraping is a lot better/easier with a properly beveled scraper.

Looks like a core or preform, either way nice find.

Yeah, I played around a little bit with glass knapping a couple years ago and that was hard enough. Not much in the way of conchoidal fracturing with this stuff (quartzite would be my guess on the material)
