Misc data and adventures of a Tayopa treasure hunter

MORNING. AS i WAS TAKING MY MORNING WALK , ABOUT 4 AM, i NOTICED VENUS IN THE SKY ALONG WITH LIGHTENING OF THE SKY HERALDING DAWN. .i HAD A FLASH BACK TO MY YUCATAN EXPLORITORY TRIP.Ii REMEMBER LYING IN MY MOSQUITO NET SEARCHIG'DNG FOR VENUS TO TELL HOW CLOSE IT WAS TO DAWN, WE HAD NEITHER WATCHES NOR FLASHLIGHTS. I MANAG'ED TO TELL WITHIN A FEW MINUTES WHEN DANW WOULD BREAK. THE SAME BASICALLY FOR AFTERNOON LIGHT, Ii GENERALLY FOUND THAT FOR EVERY HORIZONTAL FINGERS WIDTH IT WAS APROX. 1/2 HOUR. i CAME PRETTY DARN CLOSE,.THIS WAS IMPORTANT IN THE EVENING TO ESTABLISH APPROXIMATELY HOW MUCH DAYLIGHT REMAINED TO SET UP CAMP.
'
INCDENTALLY, I AM BEGINNING TO DEVELOP 'BUTT' MUSCLES - GLUTEAL l - AGAIN. MY PANTS ARE BEGINNING TO STAY UP WITHOUT SUSPENDERS :coffee2::coffee2:

Gentlemen, gentlemen relax, once the projectile leaves the barrell where it is subject to an additive force, and exits a subtractive force takes place, this is flavored by it'' ballistics factor, shape and mass which retains the energy. The propulsion factor no longer has any effect. I,E, type of powder has no further effect. Smokeless powder lends itself to multiple of modifications. pressure curves etc,. while black powers can basically, only be manipulated by size

Retained velocity is more important ( energy ) however we get back to the old problem, which is more efficient for our purpose Paper energy or ? Which would you rather use on a Brownie, a lower paper energy of say 1500 fps with a 500 grain projectile or a paper stamp at 14000 ft per sec?.

The 30 06 and 30 40 managed to get quite a few hunters chomped on in africa when they first came out, despite their superior energy to some of the proven black powder favorites of the time.

As Oro so rightyl said, energy transference is the key, with enough mass to pass it on.
A projectile that exits demonstrates only lost energy.

"As is usual with you."? Shortfinger I don't know what the deal is with you, it seems that one cannot DISAGREE about anything without that becoming an issue for you. This is why I did not even mention that you had posted the statement about modern smokeless being superior to black powder, as I was trying to avoid causing a problem with you.

Also I RESPECTFULLY disagree even about your choice of the 50 Barrett as superior to the old 2 bore. The Barrett is an impressive rifle in its own right, and is in 50 BMG, which comes the closest to the venerable African big game caliber 2 bore, yet even so it falls short in stopping power. At the best load for the 50 BMG, you get 14,895 foot pounds of energy, while with the 2 bore firing bronze bullets, the energy is 17,500 foot pounds. The difference is about the same amount of energy as what is in a 30-06 round. Now this does not mean anyone should run out and buy a 2 bore rifle <1.326 inch diameter bullet> to then pack through the brush in Alaska, personally I would sooner carry one of those excellent Marlin 'guide gun' rifles and all stainless steel, in 444 or 45-70. All that I was trying to point out is that black powder guns are not SO inferior to smokeless powder firearms, to dismiss them out of hand. Not many of us will have to be concerned about stopping charging elephants or rhinos to need an elephant gun.

<2 bore cartridge compared to 45-70>

After all our ancestors had nothing else but black powder firearms and managed to survive, and there is something to be said about meat spoilage due to too much power in the caliber and also the 'icepick effect' for bullets traveling at extreme high speeds, that literally pass through the target without doing much damage while a slower, heavier bullet stops in the target and thus transfers ALL of its energy into that target. This is one of the positive factors for the old 45 ACP versus the speedier 9mm in self defense in fact as I am sure you know. This aspect is probably one of the reasons why the venerable 30-30 continues to be among the favorite calibers for deer hunting, as it is virtually an ideal caliber for that game animal.

Good luck and good hunting amigos, I hope you find the treasures that you seek.

Just so those that don't know, the "2 Bore" is the rating from Shotguns. 2 rounds per pound, That is 8 Oz.s of lead, the copper came later for more range, but less stopping power. Now a 50 Cal does have more range but less payload (weight), 2000 Yards range, grass and tree cutter. Inquiring minds should know. lol

Gentlemen, gentlemen.....what WILL you do without ME to keep you in line. :tongue3: :dontknow:

To Life, To Love, To Adventure....

If I remember this all started from "well wishing" Dit. And providing advice about surviving bear encounters.

I'm going to share something that I was taught, long ago.

When faced with an oncoming bear,
Use your first two shots aiming at rocks or other things that about eye level to the bear and try to blow shrapnel at its face.

Try to make both shots on the same side.

This will hopefully make the bear think that he is being attacked from the side and will draw his attention from you and align his aggression toward an invisible target.

If this fails to work, when he is clove enough.... Punch him in the nose.

If that fails, punch him in the eye, with the bloody stub!

#/80{(~!

dit, you posted ---- ..and To El Jefe's Gluteus Maximus ( whatever the "bore")... Maam I'll have you know it is only 410 at the moment, but I will be soon trading it for a 2 bore:censored::coffee2::coffee2::dontknow::occasion14:

Cmoffee or slightly chilled Zinfandel ?

My pore lil dove doesn't know what all this activity is about when a person of razon is still sleeping, Incidentally I still haven't found out what happened the other night when i heard a thump and found her scrawled on the floor apparently lifeless. I picked her up and placed her in her territory where she gradually recuperated with a left wing sore or damaged, drooping, and left foot also. no fans were on, no other critters were in the computer room, but i noticed she is also missing a tail feather ?? no feathers anywhere in the computer room and here she was getting friendly, the other night she flew past my head and perched on the lamp next to my computer, we were only about 6 " eye level apart.

But she is eating me out of house and home.

Today she no longer limps and stretched both of her wings, I think that in a day or so she will be free flying again.

Her territory is in the window sil, the walls are 4 ' thick full height, so she has plenty of room to develop. I suppose that I should turn her loose but just a day or so more--- I can't turn her loose near town since there are too many kiddies with air rifles and cats. nd she has lost most of her fear of humans. Out in the country it is full of gringo dove hunter who congregate around the water and food supply.

Heck amigo a mere $25k for a formal dinner and you don't even have to wash the dishes afterwards? I will write them a check on the spot! <NOT my OWN check mind you, will have to use Audigger's for such expenses, which are after all entirely business oriented for the furtherance of our goals in exploration!>

If I had 25K to blow away, it wouldn't be for a dinner with a bunch of people that just go hiking or climbing mountains for fun. ;) Looking for treasure or gold (or other precious items, yes) but not for publicity. They can keep the fame, let me have the money. Just my screwed up beliefs. ;) I wouldn't fit in with those Hollywood types anyway. LOL

Just yanking yer chain amigo! :laughing7: Isn't that outrageous though, to charge so much? As if anyone that would be an explorer must be independently wealthy or they could not belong!

Or a movie star. Some of them go on trips and post pictures and have photographers with them to make them look good in the shots. lol

IDK, Digger, but a brief search showed him living in Mesquite, NV....only 80 miles from Vegas. Drugs? Gambling? Mobbed up? All of the above? :dontknow:

Has a son named Michael Meyers though....might avoid the family on Fridays, mid-month.
In that case then cash would have made more sense to me. The gold would be awfully heavy to try to take as baggage. IMO. Way over the 25 to 50 Lb limit for the US airlines. And Southwest doesn't fly down there. ;)

Jose, Thanks again fro starting this Thread. It is nice to have a place to pass on known hints and talk to all of us here without the "yelling" or other "I told you!" ect. Much better to act as friends, even if we have not meet or gone hunting with each other. I admit, I take a lot "With a grain of Salt or even a box.lol" But I have seen fewer arguments here than on other threads. Most of the ones here don't have a axe to grind just good fellowship. And again I thank you for starting it. Marc PS Any gold hunting sites you find that I was on, I was always audigger53, and that was over 18 years ago. Now that's a scary thought. LOL

As for you =========watch it,I am a fully paid up member. That dinner is not designed for the regular members, but for Club supporters. For Example Rolex watch,, publicity pays off. The money goes to help pay for expeditions of members that do not have enough money themselves but present a good project -- Presumably Lost Jesuit missions insurrections, expulsions, and stored treasures do not apply, in fact one of the rules is no commercial events in exploration. The \astronauts belonged of course. We rank with the National Geographic and the Smithsonian Inst.often work together
