I'm looking at buying a GPS hand held unit. Does one display work better than the other in the field. I like the looks of color but am concerned that it may not display as well in the sunlight. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if you read my post ( a couple down), my Magellan Platinum (monochrome)was and is much easier to read in the daylight, than the Oregon 300 (color). Some believe, it's because of the touch screen. Whatever; if at all possible, check it out in the environment you'll be using it in, before buying.

Thanks Shep. Yes I had read your post and have been looking at the etrex but will give the Magellan a look as well. I just want to make sure I can see it well outdoors.

After having a color unit, it would be hard to go back to one of the non-color units I've retired.

Thanks rc2125 that was what I was thinking. I'm looking at the color ones now. Thanks again for the input.
