Went to a site yesterday it was a wooded site....more like briar patch spent three hours chopping vines & briars out & knowing the sun was getting low in the sky I dropped the chopping & tried to pull a few finds before dark.Well the chopping went from above ground to below. :laughing7: As there was targets but there was roots too :D It's a messy site early to late 1800's & one that may have some finds but it will require some more time. The old musket butt plate was a cool find as it has some neat scroll work done in it.Not sure what the threaded loop thing is ..... seems like I've seen it somewhere but not coming to me yet????
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

A butt plate is a good find, still have 0 in my collection.

Nice finds. Bet there is something really good in their if you can deal with the underbrush.

nice save with the butt plate :icon_thumright:

Thanks Guy's,I think it would fall under the fowler, blunderbuss,& some brown bess are close. But surely early 19th if not mid to late 18th century for that style of a butt. Here's some from those catagories to see what I mean.

Nice finds, like that butt plate, HH

Some great relics Pete. Well worth the chopping and dropping.
Congrats on that butt plate.

way to attack that site!

There is no doubt as to you knowing how to kill time, good finds. HH

Tough going but you found some interesting relics! I have a fold up pocket type saw for forest detecting, the blade is a good 10" and rips through roots with no problem other than elbow grease, LOL. HH, Mike

Thanks MKnTenn,ModernMiner,HEAVYMETALNUT,Whitebeard
Thanks Bavaria Mike for the tip.I've used hand pruners & most anything in the past.I carry a machete with me now & days.It works quit well for both the above & below chopping.I remember when being little how much old growth our woods here use to have. They were very clean with big trees & very few briar/vines.Saddly you can't hardly find a block even a small block of woods here any more that hasn't been timbered to death.Stripped of all pretty hard wood & left with nothing but log skidder rutts, brairs, vines,& small pines. It's a real shame to me but that's the fast pace life we live in now & days. :( Only nice big trees we have left here would be in swamp areas & not many of them haven't been taken now & days.I know of lots of very neat sites from younger days that you just couldn't or wouldn't even want to try & find anymore.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

TK, the threaded loop thing reminds me of the top of a table lamp though I doubt that this item comes from an electric lamp. Just a thought...........63bkpkr
