More CSA finds Two Cast I's Ky Button Texas Star

This is another CSA camp I could not get the trio in on... Just solo hunting only. Took me 3 yrs to hunt this site. I found cast I buttons, Ky button, the center pc to a two pc militia buckle prob. Texas. There was Texas troops in this area. Lots of Enfields and 69 round balls, and a few 69 3-ringers, and etc.... Special thanks to L.H. For the help with the map..... Happy New Years to ALL. Your Star likely has nothing to do with Texas.More of that buckle are dug in(civilian) sites that pre date the C.W. and have no Texas affiliation.The wreath in your reference picture isnt the proper one either.Great finds!!!

Cody, Josh asked for me to respond as I know a little more history of the area. Col. Gano's Texas Rangers were in Gen. John Hunt Morgan's command there. The camp josh is hunting is the 7th KY Cavalry & Col. Gano was their commander. Likely, the Republic of Texas button Dman recovered nearby a little over a year ago was lost by one of Gano's Texas troopers. Have a great 2014 Bud, Q.

I was looking through Crouch's civil war artifact book and it seems your Texas star is very close to a hat device seen on page 171 on the top right. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Its one of many mis identified items in books.....it is the center disc to a stamped brass tongue,half of a two piece buckle,like Josh stated


Quindy,thanks!Sounds like the Provenance in this case may support that a Texan may have wore this one,how ever just as I stated more of this buckle are actually found in the "west",than any where(I have dug a couple my self,and I know of at least 25-30 complete examples and countless center disc's.....I have never ever hunted a military site or any site with any Texas affiliation.The Star stood for MANY different things back then(The first Calif Flag featured one lone red star,etc.I guess what I am trying to say is this buckle was not made for any military(even dress)nor specifically for Texas.Heck...one of my examples was dug in a site that also produced a stamped brass buckle that featured an swooping eagle with a shield in its beak that is often mistakenly associated with New York....my point being....if they had any Military meaning...do you think a Yank would be sharing camp with a Texan?? ...Just my un-professional observation/opinion

...I can just about guarantee from what I have learned by the provenance (more info has been privately conveyed to me)that somebody from Texas wore the buckle that this center piece once was attached to!!

Anyone smart enough to find a place in Texas that you can MD for artifacts has got my vote. Most all of the sites I can thank of is off limits. That's how much I know. Great finds, I am envenious. ( spell)
