Critics like to attribute all dowsing phenomena to the ideomotor effect as if somehow by magic a dowsing rod responds to a target. This is humorous it is so ridiculous. It's as if the ideomotor is some sort of magical spirit with a mind of it's own that controls the person. Stage hypnotists use the ideomotor effect to make their subjects do stupid things.
I have always said there is a balance within the human system that allows the rod to align with the lines of force between the dowser and the target's field. This balance is between the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous systems, but it won't function properly if the person does not have the balance to begin with. And it won't just work unless the person is searching for the resonance. All fields affect all other fields. The dowser's thought energy affects the target's field. It energizes it. There are other means to accomplish this but it is forbidden to talk about it on this forum. But whichever technique you use, you still need the balance.
Balance between the nervous systems is more complicated than most people care to get into, but breathing exercises are one good way to help. I posted an article on GSR euipment that explains some of it. You can also read about emotions in books like "Knowing Your Intuitive Mind" by Dale Olson. Probably a good exercise program is the best way, but most people in this country have programmed their mind to reject this.
It's also ridiculous to claim that a dowser cannot sense the lines of force. Many animals rely on their magnetic sense and many humans can easily sense the compass directions. Just because we don't rely on the magnetic sense for survival does not mean it's not available to use.
And don't forget that like attracts like at least from a distance. This is called resonance. Unfortunately this is not always good. So make sure you hang with good, positive thinking people. A good example is how police are adversely affected.
