I posted on 1/11/19 of a Virginia halfpenny dug at a Balto. Co. park. I returned to that park today and dug three other Colonial-era pieces. First, from 3 inches, what looks like a George II half penny. If it is, it would date from the 1750s, but at 7.5 grams it may be a counterfeit. Next, from 9 inches, came a twisted piece of brass that turns out to be a massively bent shoe buckle frame. The last piece came from 4.5 inches and appears to be a counterfeit George III halfpenny at 6.6 grams, also shown next to a Machin Mills halfpenny. No dates on these coins as the reverses are toast.

Nice finds, and not too deep down for some. I would be happy finding even one of those coins. Great job-congrats.

Thanks for the awesomeness 'D'!

Welcome Al.relics and Thank you! Been to a lot of rec fields but most don't give up colonial artifacts.

Thanks Relicific! Don't see anyone else detecting this site. Pretty cool to have a place like this.

Thanks lenmac! Yes, the shallow depth on a couple surprised me. I think anything shallow has to be clad, so you may say I was twice surprised on this hunt. HH & GL!

Congratulations on the old copper! :icon_thumleft:

Great saves, date or no date very cool, great IDing on the buckle frame. Congrats on all

Congrats on the copper's and the mongo shoe buckle!! Love detecting Maryland :icon_thumright:

Thanks Professor! This is the second rec field area I've discovered to have colonial relics. We'll see what comes up next time out.

Thanks Inspector! It was when I was scraping dirt off with a toothpick that the pinholes were revealed. I little prodding with a safety pin cleared them out.

Thanks civilman1! I only detected in PA once (other than the PenMar club hunts in '17 and '18), but that was a Union camp and the finds there were some good keepers. Other than that, Maryland has been my hunting grounds. HH & GL!
