I did 5hrs on one of my fave roman sites. I hunt this field for 5 years now every spring and fall. Still some finds to make even with competition. I just have to be faster than them...
I wonder how many big finds turn up from time to time. I thought i had cleared everything big... The Bronze to Silver ratio is amazing this year about 25 to 1! When cleaning the finds i had a second look at the 'Un Centime'. I rarely look at these coins twice, this got my attention because of the stunning condition. Paris mint 'L'an 6' coins go for more than $100 in worse condition... The beautiful Denarius of Julia Mamaea Augusta minted 222-235 AD more than 1500 years older rarely fetch that much. Other finds were 4 Roman bronzes, fibula, ring and a bronze thinghy i first thought stylus. Another pic shows how much roof tile frags and bigger pottery shards sticks in the potatoe harvester every harvest. It will fill a trailer....
Fresh harvested roman silver...
Julia Mamaea, Augusta, 222-235. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 2.62 g, 7 h), Rome, 230. IVLIA MAMAEA AVG Diademed and draped bust of Julia Mamaea to right. Rev. FELICITAS PVBLICA Felicitas seated left, holding caduceus in her right hand and cornucopiae with her left. BMC 659. Cohen 24. RIC 338.
