We started on one of our Fav Roman/Saxon Sites where we managed 30 scrappies in 3 hours! Most are very small, as we have done the site well. The smallest being only 0.11g; shows the power of the XP. Dad also had a Lead Token & a Roman Pinhead.

We then moved to another site for 1 hour & had 9 coins, mostly bigger ones, which gives us confidence the site is worth doing. Also a Medieval Purse Bar (centre) was found but not much else.

So nearly 10 roman Coins per hour is a great result, even if we got nothing special. It's all about the numbers.:icon_thumright:

Awesome hunt!

XP rocks! If you start digging birdshot you know you're sporting XP. Great score on the romans. What i wanted to ask about these sites. Are the early sites before build of the Hadrians Wall better than later ones?

That is a tiny coin, a close up of that would be cool.

Yep...numbers, you can only dig so many scrappies, (or toasties in my language) before a good one pops out. After 39 you're probably getting close.

Wow those are some some coins...that american coin for comparison is seeing lots of action lately...

I can't really judge that. I have only had 1 site that started at about 50BC & finished at about 150AD. So most of my sites start about 100AD & finish at 400AD.

Not much to see on a close up.

We are overdue.

Greetings CRUSADER, Westfront & other diggers of Roman stuff,

Have any of you been involved with, seen, or heard about a Roman privy dig? I have never read a good Roman privy dig story...

That's great digging that amount of Roman coinage per hour, it seems like a numbers game before something awesome pops up.
Is the Crime Fighter item a button?

Not really heard of a Roman Privy, of course the towns had sewage systems.

Not a button, but no clue what it is, maybe of a toy ?

Same here. After all these years you don't know if the finds came out of a privy or not after spreaded by the plow. But i knew from dried out wells wich were filled with rubbish when the new well was finished. This is a caved in roman well. You see bricks and roof tiles were thrown into.
