More Snow Snoop'n Today In The Tundra......

Hit a couple more snow hills today while all the Edmonton kids were in school. Did pretty good. Got up to a few degrees below freezing. Very comfortable hunting I might add. I lucked out with a hockey puck and a pile of cold cash. And no more pennies are being minted. :icon_thumright:

Nice. Think I'll try a local sledding hill when the weather warms a bit more. I was always scared to take my detector out in the freezing snow. Will the cold wreck my detector?

I have been hunting in the winter months for many years. The problems usually are with the batteries running low quickly. I have hunted in temps down to about -25c/-13f. The curly aspect of the headset wire loses it's springing qualities and gets very stiff. I sometimes attach hot pacs to the electronics to keep the batteries warm also.

Great ideas john. I'm planning on doing some site testing for this spring and will give that a try for the at pro.

I did the hot pac a little differently, but it's simpler as the batteries are inserted in a totally different way.

I noticed John that you have a converted Ace 150 as a water proof machine. Just wondering if you could send me some info or specs/pics on your modification. I'm thinking if water proffing a tesoro compadre or an Ace myself. Thanks.

That is funny john but very clever, nice idea

Basically what I did, was extend the coil wire (I ordered and extension) and removed the electronics from the upper stem. I then attached it to replace one side of an old headset as shown. I wrapped the machine in plastic as assurance in case it got dunked!

Crazy weather for sure. A few weeks back it got to -40 with the wind, we got rain, then the temp went to +8, then so windy, that we broke an all new record for wind speed. I had to replace some siding which blew off the side of my house.

Whatever we get, you get it next.:BangHead:

Yes John we had that same plow wind come through our town as well, it pushed the door in on my aluminum shed outside it was so strong
