Below is a link to a story about 4 Temple University students that were victims of 3 (yes I said 3) armed intruders last night. Many people laugh at the notion that it is a good idea to be prepared for more than one armed intruder. This is just one example of multiple intruders. According to the story, none of the victims were drug dealers, and being college students I'd suggest they were anything but wealthy. How would the much esteemed sword or knife worked for self defense in a case similar to this one?

It wouldn't have worked, nor would it had she had a gun either, as the guy came from behind while she was outside and occupied with his own gun already out and levelled! Had her friends in the house had a sword or gun then that wouldn't have helped either, as he already had 1 hostage with gun to head and nobody would have done anything!

I know you posted this in response to my post intimating home intruders only come in ones, but to be honest i was just talking as a one on one, sword against gun, kind of home invasion. Of course there are many home invasions by more than 1 person, but also a hell of a lot by a single guy.
Guess i was probably talking with a Brit' burglar's perception. We seem to be braver than yours and go in one's! :tongue3:

First off, this is an N of 1, not what I would call good research.

Secondly, had they been coming after my house they never would have got past G.I.B's zombie sentinels unnoticed.

Not sure what you mean about it being good research. It is an example of a home invasion that included multiple aggressors with firearms, not a research study. Are you claiming it didn't happen? If not, then it serves perfectly as "just one example" as I noted in my OP.

I don't think anybody ever disagreed with you that multiple person home invasions have occured and do occur... Not sure what this example was trying to show at all really.

All 3 perps hand handguns. I wish they would outlaw the AR15's as soon as possible so all of this crime stops!

On the contrary, many people scoff at the notion that multiple armed intruders is a realistic threat to prepare for. It happened yesterday on these boards, and more often on Facebook, Twitter, and various gun-related message boards. This belief is held by many people.

Yeah, I got that part. However, what would giving only one example demonstrate? That somewhere in the country there was a multiple home invasion at some point in time...see what I am getting at here?

By George, you are right! We should ban handguns as well! Good point.

Oh boy , we could start a list of banned items used as assualt devices in one way or another . By the time we're done we would be naked and waiting for lightning to strike just to have a .............:tongue3: oooops . Almost forgot about ARSON . Sorry guys , no fire & Guinness tonight .........:BangHead:

Yeah, I see where you are going. I guess next time I'll have to post every single news article so I have enough reading material for everyone. Obviously my point can't be taken from just ONE article. How silly of me. :notworthy:

Shadow, its just that someone can find an example of just about anything under the sun. We all have a friend of a uncle's cousin that has had something strange of bizarre happen to them. It's called "anecdotal" evidence and it ranks extremely low when proving a case. Not that it was your intention to prove any point , but just posting an interesting story.

The point about anecdotal evidence is taken. In this case I think my intent was more of "look it does happen to normal people" instead of "this is proof we all need to prepare". At the same time, anecdotal evidence is still evidence. To dismiss it entirely is just as flawed as relying too heavily upon it.

Shadowline , these guys are a hard sell . All due respect , anything you post will be dissected . No matter where the information comes from or point your trying to make . Trust me . Been there done that ................:BangHead:

Completely agree with you.

The day I stop questioning everything I hear and read is the day ill be pulling my plug. Always be skeptical and question everything. It surprised me that people can question absolute everything coming from the government or from science journals yet take other information at complete face value without hesitation.

And it's a good thing people are questioning. We recently had someone post an article about aircraft carriers being docked at Norfolk (basically an anti obama propaganda piece). Well anyone with a little checking could quickly find out that the "article" was a blatant hoax.

Stockpicker, I see you like to question everything. What about the obama administration do you question the most? I mean the big points?

Sure, Id say my biggest concern is what we are doing about the economy. I think much of the "stimulus" was flushed down the toilet. I think too many people who got themselves over their heads were let off the hook way too easily. And I think the constant vilifying of corporation is not helpful at all. I voted for Romney over Obama as I thought he might have a better go at improving the economy. That being said I believe that bush trashed the economy as bad as anyone and should be held accountable also. Bush really made me question my long standing Republican Party membership and support.

As we all know if it very difficult to say blame lies solely on any individual president. Frankly I think congress as an institution is far more responsible for our country's problems as opposed to the office of the president. Of course for some individuals is easier to blame the pres or political party.

I also think that Pres. Bush should not have allowed Congress to run amok with the checkbook. Especially the last few years when he wanted to get along! Not that he wasn'yt a liberal spender, he was. But when confronted with the speaker( we call her the skull), he caved and spent and spent, Maybe he thought thhe media would like him more if he went to the dark side?

Registered Republican? Hah! So was Charlie Crist.

I would say that he took a page out of the dem book and tried to buy the AARP vote with his socialist drug program. One of the biggest socialist spending programs since FDR. He gets full credit for that one.
